      Lee (A Lesson in Vengeance) spins a profoundly emotional love story that takes its themes of addiction, faith, and art as seriously as it does its romantic arc. Bisexual artist Elisheva Cohen, four years sober, is optimistic about her return to New York City, the site of some young adult trauma, to study with the illustrious trans photographer Wyatt Cole, but when her amazing hookup the night before school starts turns out to be the professor himself, things get complicated. (“This is literally TV-drama behavior, without the benefits,” muses the delightfully genre savvy Ely. “I’m pretty sure this is the plot of the first episode of Grey’s Anatomy.”) Their lingering attraction is disallowed but undeniable—and it’s indelibly entangled with artistic mentorship and mutual support around trauma and recovery.       Back in NYC for a summer art program, Ely is determined to maintain her sobriety and to learn all she can from famous photographer Wyatt Cole. But when they meet in a queer nightclub the night before class and sparks fly, they must navigate the power differential of a teacher being attracted to a student, though both are consenting adults. The two try to stay respectable all summer but grow closer as Wyatt confronts his family, who rejected him for being trans, and as Ely deals with a relapse and her summer project about her complicated relationship with the Orthodox Jewish community that expelled her. Lee, well known for YA queer romances like A Lesson in Vengeance, seamlessly and successfully transitions into adult queer romance with hot and steamy scenes. Readers will connect with Ely and Wyatt as they come of age emotionally and search for their own true homes and families. Narrator Scott Turner Schofield, who is trans, lends an authentic and engrossing voice to the chapters that come from Wyatt's point of view.
