"Fred Berman brings the team to life. His well-paced delivery allows the story's laugh-out-loud humor to shine, particularly the dry one-liners and wisecracks from Corey and Andy...Berman's narration, along with the fun and engaging mystery, results in a thoroughly enjoyable listen." — AudioFile Magazine

From bestselling mystery author David Rosenfelt comes a new series – a spinoff of the much beloved Andy Carpenter mysteries – about a dynamic new investigative team featuring a determined former cop and his loyal German Shepherd.

Corey Douglas and his K-9 partner, Simon Garfunkel, have recently retired from the police force. Not ready to give up the life yet, they come up with a proposal for fellow former cop, Laurie Carpenter, and her investigating partner, Marcus. Laurie and Marcus – who help out Laurie's lawyer husband Andy on cases – have been chafing to jump back into investigating on their own, so they are in.
They call themselves the K Team, in honor of Simon. Their first job as private investigators comes to them from Judge Henry Henderson, who's known as a very tough but fair judge, and they've all come up against him in court at one time or another. Though it's hard to believe, Judge Henderson is being blackmailed and extorted, and he doesn't want to involve the police—he needs the K Team to figure out why.

This strong series launch from Edgar finalist Rosenfelt, a spin-off from the author’s Andy Carpenter series (Dachsund Through the Snow, etc.), stars Carpenter’s wife, Laurie Collins, who has left the Paterson, N.J., PD to form the K Team, which includes a former police colleague of Laurie’s and his canine partner. Their first client is Henry Henderson, a judge whose professional reputation is beyond reproach, who has received an anonymous letter advising him that he will be called on to do something that he has already been well paid for and that refusal to play ball will result in exposure. As proof that his adversary means business, Henderson has also received a bank statement someone has created in his name for a Cayman Islands account. The jurist has no idea who’s behind the extortion or their motive. The K Team’s quest for answers leads them to a cleverly conceived conspiracy and a number of corpses. This is a promising start to what’s likely to be a long-running series. 75,000-copy announced first printing. Agent: Robin Rue, Writers House.

In this spin-off from the successful Andy Carpenter series, the K Team, a team of private investigators, includes Andy's wife, Laurie, along with former detective Corey Douglas and his trusted canine companion. Together, they seek to find out who is about to blackmail a judge. With the new series comes a different narrator. Fred Berman brings the team to life. His well-paced delivery allows the story's laugh-out-loud humor to shine, particularly the dry one-liners and wisecracks from Corey and Andy. Berman also successfully voices the female characters, notably Laurie, reflecting her tough, no-nonsense yet compassionate character. Berman's narration, along with the fun and engaging mystery, results in a thoroughly enjoyable listen. K.J.P. © AudioFile 2020, Portland, Maine
